The Northern California Group Psychotherapy Society (NCGPS) is a professional organization for therapists interested in group psychotherapy. Established over 40 years ago, it is the regional chapter of the American Group Psychotherapy Association ( AGPA), the primary voice for group psychotherapists in the United States. Like the parent organization, NCGPS  sponsors a variety of training experiences and provides a forum for discussion of professional issues related to the practice of group psychotherapy. In addition to training opportunities, NCGPS provides a variety of  services to group therapists, other mental health professionals and the community at large:

Training Opportunities and Services Include:

• Directory of Group Psychotherapy in Northern California. This extensive, cross indexed listing of group therapists and types of therapy groups  is provided in both an on-line version and also a print version.
  
  
• The Annual Conference/Training Institute at the Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove. This two and one-half day residential training event features master group therapists, selected for their demonstrated expertise in clinical group psychotherapy, as well as didactic and experiential teaching. It occurs annually in June.
  
  
• The  CGP Training Program.  This is  an intensive training program in group psychotherapy designed to provide the training needed for qualified mental health professionals to become Certified Group Psychotherapists
  
  
• The Group Therapy Information and Referral Service.  This community  service allows both patients and mental health professionals  individualized assistance in finding appropriate groups. It can be reached by calling 415-442-1976, the NCGPS Voice Mail.
  
  
• The NCGPS Newsletter. This is published three times a year and features articles and information of interest to group psychotherapists.
  
  
• The "Evening With The Masters" Series. These are small group learning opportunities, provided by senior group therapists, occurring  throughout the year.
  
  
• The Fall Event and Spring Event. All day educational events featuring well-known experts with unique views of group psychotherapy.
  
  
• Peer Consultation Groups. Monthly meetings of 6-10 people provide members with professional support while expanding clinical knowledge. Groups currently exist in San Francisco, Oakland, Marin and Sacramento. 
  
  
• Monthly Council Meetings.  These occur on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, at the Oakland  office of  NCGPS President Rose Phelps. Open to all members
  
  
• Training Resource Library. Audio and video tapes of our past group therapy training events, as well as other group therapy training material.
