The Group Therapy Salon
How long has it been since you've read a paper about group therapy?
How well are you acquainted with new papers about groups?
When was the last time that you've had a theoretical discussion about some issue in the group psychotherapy field?
The NCGPS is starting a new project: The Group Therapy Salon. The idea is to establish small groups (10-12 members each) that will meet monthly to read papers in group therapy and discuss theoretical issues about groups.
As a pilot, we will first open two groups: one in San Francisco, led by Walter Stone, MD, and one in Sacramento, led by Haim Weinberg, PhD. Each meeting will last 90 minutes. The meetings will be informal, not providing CEU, and the venue will be the home or office of the chair or one of the salon members. Participants will receive a "reader" containing the articles, will be requested to read one paper before each meeting, and every month someone will be appointed to discuss the paper.
The fee for each series of 4 meeting will be $40 for NCGPS members and $50 for non-members. This fee will cover the cost of the reader, refreshments, advertisement, and other expenses. Participants will sign up for a series of 4 meetings and pay for them at the beginning of the series.
The general theme for the 4 first meetings will be "group psychotherapy from a self and relational psychology perspective". The theme for the next series of meetings will take into consideration the members' interests.
